I have a 16hp kohler engine on a craftsman riding mower and the mower wasn't getting any spark. I unplugged the kill wire and tried again, still no spark. I bought a brand new ignition coil and still have no spark with and without the kill wire connected. What could this be?|||You might try a new spark plug. Also, is the ignition switch faulty? You said you removed the kill wire, hum? Okay then if you did all as you say you should in theory have a spark. However, one thing you did not state was the age of the machine (engine).

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that the flywheel magnet has lost its magnetism, that is.. become too weak to give enough flux to generate a magnetic field within coil winding. I have seen this a couple of times before. Check this out with a screw driver...It should be a hard to pull it away from the magnet. This, of course, assuming the new coil is not defective. To set the gap, use an old film negative. This will give about ten thousands inch gap and should be perfect for starting your machine.

50 years fixing and repairing all types of small and large mower engines.|||Have you suspected the spark plug?
