Can you tell me why my Kohler toilet (dating back to the 1990s) makes a loud noise after I flush?

Don't laugh too hard. This is a serious question and it's very annoying. The toilet makes a horn like and vibrating type sound. I can get it to stop by opening the toilet tank lid and pulling up on the stalk that connects to the rubber ball. Is there a part that I can change to eliminate this problem. It's very inconvenient to tell each house guest that the toilet roars. I don't want to tell ppl that they have to open the toilet tank and pull up on the rubber ball. Thanks.|||I had the same problem - it's called a water hammer. It has to do with the rate that the water is flowing back into the tank and the frequency just happens to be audible. The good news is that It can be fixed - just replace the mechanics inside the tank and even try shutting the valve to the toilet a bit and that might help.

The workers in your local hardware store can likely help you with this now that you can tell them what it is.

Good luck!|||Kohler toilets from that era had a sensor on them. It makes that noise when it is complaining about the amount and size of your waste disposal.|||Sounds like you need to replace the ballcock and flapper valve there is a kit for both, fluidmaster is best and has all the parts. All you need is a bucket to catch the water and a wrench and pliers. It has good instructions|||OK, now for the answer; the gaskets and washers in the ballcock are slowly wearing out, when they are pressed by the seat the assembly vibrates from the water pressure, the ballcock must be replaced, some Kohlers can't use a standard ballcock, you should take the valve to a plumbing supply and inquire.|||I think it's time to either have it serviced or change it
